That was a temporary evolution/mutation led by the influx of the spider god state that the human-faced spider he absorbed energy from was that made all the soul bones to connect with each other through the interaction with his external soul bone (which was of the same species that the spider he absorbed energy from). It's allegedly not shown again due to not being able to armonize all of his soul bones while in that transformation (spider legs were violent, bunny bone was calm, head bone was cold and the one from mom was benevolent back on EP 2x110) leading to great strain to his body (just imagine if that was the case with the 4 soul bones he had, add the 3 new ones while losing 1 of the kind ones) and kinda just was a way to hint that his soul bones had a chance to be merged into a set.
Anyway, he is still lacking 1 soul bone to even consider a soul bone set mix.

I have not complained about the animations interpretation of the novel since I started watching it but I will say I am a little annoyed by this episode . They should have made it more balanced a fight she is a god yes but her Godhood is unstable and not completely formed. The fight in the novel was not so one sided and yes she did get his trident but it was not just grabbing it from him like they depicted in this episode. I can see already though considering how many episodes are left we are not going to get as far as I thought unless they cut a considerable amount of the story and rush things. I guess the movie being released will contain a large portion of the finale of the first book.
